The Port of Swansea has capacity to handle vessels of up to 30,000 dwt and provides berths and facilities for most types of cargo. The port is less than three miles by dual carriageway to Junction 42 of the M4 and has direct links to the national rail network.
Dry bulks
Handles cement, minerals, agribulks, aggregates, and dredged sand
Minerals and ores
No. 4 Quay in King's Dock is used for grab-loading of coal and can handle substantial volumes of power-station coal for direct loading to the terminal's rail sidings
Graigola Wharf provides a 3 ha quayside site with cranes, handling equipment, and concrete surfacing licensed for the storage and screening of coal and other bulk products
Forest products
Capable of handling regular shipments of sawn timber and board products as well as log cargoes
Regular shipments of wood pulp are handled on behalf of a number of producers who supply local and national tissue manufacturers
Steel and general cargo
Accommodates many types of steel, general, project, and heavy-lift cargoes in vessels of up to 30,000 dwt
D-shed terminal offers 15,000 sq m of warehousing and large areas of paved open storage for non-weather sensitive cargo, and is complemented with a range of cranes and handling equipment
Exports of recycled metal area also handled
Passengers and cruises
While close to Swansea City centre, the Gower Peninsular and other local tourist attractions are within easy reach
Offers facilities and services to accommodate cruise vessels, depending on requirements
Facilities are available for both turnaround and call-in cruise visits
RoRo
Swansea Ferryport comprises a berth with passenger facilities and car-marshalling areas
Offshore wind
Ideally located to serve both the assembly and O&M needs of wind and tidal projects being developed in the Bristol Channel
Currently has a 16 ha site available for development by the offshore wind industry
